Murder on 34th Street

Playful, amusing, entertaining, enjoyable, delightful, pleasing and just down right FUN! Yes, we've all seen the regular and normal holiday fare offered by local theatres, but WhoDunnit's Murder on 34th Street is anything but normal. A.S. Waterman has created a fictional world where real people don't exist and even the audience must choose a fictional identity to help solve the murder. As always, A.S. Waterman is witty -- the clues are always there, yet one must be a keen observer to solve the mystery.

The story begins with Santa's hectic schedule for the Christmas season being arranged and argued over by the staff of Santa Inc. The good-hearted Merrie (Judy Crippin) is the true boss of the North Pole who must constantly reassure Santa that he's supposed to be fat. She must watch year after year a ladder-climbing race between Eve (Alicia Davis) and Noel (Dan Hardesty) and a sweetheart affair between Holly (Jessica Vautard) and Nicholas (Dario Konjicija) that ends after every Christmas season. The cycle this year is upset by a gruesome murder. Someone has murdered Mr. Macy!

It's anything but "business as usual" at Santa's workshop in WhoDunnit's Murder on 34th St. From left: Alicia Davis, James Wolford Hardin, Dario Konjicija, Jessica Vautard, Judy Crippin and Dan Hardesty. The show is double-cast. (For more info, see http://www.whodunnitky.com/about_34thSt.shtml .)

The murder of Mr. Macy upsets Santa's entire schedule. They must find the murderer. The crew of Santa Inc. must find a good fictional detective to solve the crime. Santa turns to his bag and pulls out a book. After reviewing Nancy Drew and conflicts with copyright laws and turning down Sherlock because of a drug problem, the next book to be drawn out of Santa's bag features Dr. MacCrimmon. Santa changes the ending to the last Dr. MacCrimmon book to have the good detective magically appear at the North Pole. (For those of you who are Dr. MacCrimmon fans, this is a hilarious sidebar of the series which even includes Frank Whitaker [Dr. MacCrimmon] singing!)

As with all WhoDunnit productions, dinner is included with the ticket price and actor interaction is free! Dinner was first-rate with excellent service. Dinner is made even more enjoyable by the actors mingling freely amongst the guests, inviting questions, comments and even a little bit of playing. The WhoDunnit experience is made unique by wonderful actors who happily tolerate inquisitive audience members.

A magnificent story from a distinguished writer, a fantastic meal and distinguished actors make for a perfect night. Whether you are looking for a spectacular holiday play or just something to do, Murder on 34th Street is a grand deal.
