Americans have borrowed several things from the British that have become overnight sensations in the states. For example, we took The Office, American Idol, and now the play Secondary Cause of Death. I would dare say we perfected these things, but these would not have been possible without the British, and for that we thank them for the blueprint. Yes, blueprint, because there is always a blueprint before the masterpiece.
This is not your typical murder mystery; as a
matter of fact, you get caught up in the jokes
so much that you forget to look for clues. Inspector
Pratt (Paul Kerr) is a cross between Maxwell Smart,
Steve Martin, and Mr. Bean. You can't
help but laugh as he demolishes the English language
with a straight face. He is drawn into a
reenactment of a murder put on by Cynthia Maple
(Rita Thomas) and hosted by Colonel Charles Craddock
(David Myers). Of course, you know that the
reenactment turns real, and it is slowly revealed
that people aren't who they say they are.
Then you add some Pink Panther music and a fireplace
that moves to reveal a hidden passageway, and “Bam,” you
have a murder comedy mystery, namely Secondary
Cause of Death.
