"I Really Like Christmas Too..."

There are a few things you can guarantee will happen when family gets together to celebrate a holiday or work together on a project: food will be available, someone will cry, someone will laugh, and there will definitely be conflict; but in the end they will still be family, win, lose, or draw.

Christmas Belles is the epitome of the previous statement. Fayro, Texas, is the where Christmas Belles takes place. One of the Futrelle sisters gets the opportunity to run the Christmas pageant for the Tabernacle of the Lamb church, a pageant Geneva Musgrave (Emily Miller) has run successfully for years. The Futrelle Sisters, Honey Raye (Susan McNeese Lynch), Twink (Trish Powell), and Frankie (Kristy Calman), have all odds against them; will they fail or succeed? I won't tell, but I guarantee you that you will laugh hysterically trying to figure it out.

To say that there were no standout performances is not a put-down to any of the actors, but rather "kudos" to the director for casting such a talented bunch and getting the best performance out of each one.

This show is a wonderful break from the "traditional" Christmas shows. Now don't get me wrong, I love the classics, but sometimes you need a mentally challenged adult friend like Raynerd Chisum (Sidney Hymson) to come through with his toy wagon and let everyone know that he loves Christmas and Arbor Day too "but Christmas has better songs." Sometimes it is good to know that the local lawman, John Butner (Craig Nolan Highley), is not afraid to show his inmate how he feels, and that even if a marriage proposal goes awry, there is always a chance that things will come out in the end – just ask G.J. (Leah Roberts) – pun intended.

If the previous paragraph has you confused, or curious, you need to make your way to Fayro, Texas, by way of the Bunbury Theatre, and definitely see a refreshing new offering of entertainment, put together by director Nancy Hoover and her cast and crew.

They say everything is Bigger in Texas. Well, now they can put Christmas on that list too.
